
The longest and the most famous railway journey in the world, the Trans-Siberian Railway traverses the whole expanse of Russia from Europe to the Orient. Few other journeys enable the passenger to relax so completely during their course, and to become lost in the rhythm of the journey as time zones and the urgency to arrive both become meaningless.
Day 1 : Ulaan Baatar
International arrivals are met and guests are transferred to the hotel for a welcome dinner and three-night stay. Free time for exploring the capital city of Mongolia
Day 2 : Ulaan Baatar
Full day at Ulaan Baatar’s Naadam Festival. Today’s activities include the Opening Ceremony, archery, wrestling and 33km on horseback riding.
Day 3 : Ulaan Baatar
Half day at the Naadam Festival, including the Closing Ceremony. A city tour is optiomal to visit various monasteries including the Gandam Monastery and the National Museum.
Day 4 : Ulaan Baatar/Ulan Ude
A day to enjoy the magnificent alpine scenery of Terelj, with possibility of hiking and horse riding in the 300,000 hectare Gorkhi-Terelj National Park. Alternatively, a free day in Ulaan Baatar with opportunities for cashmere shopping. Evening departure of our Golden Eagle private Trans-Siberian Express train.
Day 5 : Lake Baikal
A spectacular day of adventure spent winding our way through tunnels and along cliff faces on the Port Baikal branch on the shoreline of the world’s largest freshwater lake, Lake Baikal. Enroute we stop for a barbeque lunch (weather permitting), and then board a hydrofoil taking us across the lake to the village of Listvyanka. Our tour of this lakeside town, nestled into the surrounding foothills, includes the Limnological Institute.
Day 6 : Irkutsk
Morning arrival in Irkutsk, known as the ‘Paris of Siberia’. We spend the day visiting the main sights and museums, viewing the classic Siberian wooden architecture. Opportunity for free time in the afternoon.
Day 7 : Abakan
Heading west through the beautiful landscape of the Sayan Mountains, stopping in Abakan. A full day on the train to enjoy the relaxed pace of life on our ‘hotel on wheels’. If we have the time we will take a short visit to Abakan.
Day 8 : Novosibirsk
A stopover in this modern Soviet City, where we visit the Opera House, Lenin Square and the Ob River, which flows 3,500 miles (2000km) from its source to the Arctic.
Day 9 : Yekaterinburg
Yekaterinburg, last city in Asia and capital of the Urals. Our town tour includes the Romanov execution site and the Urals Mineralogical Museum.
Day 10 : Kazan
We spend the day in Kazan, the beautiful capital of Tatarstan on Volga River.
Day 11 : Moscow
Morning arrival in Moscow. Full day tour including Red Square and the Kremlin. We have our final farewell dinner and stay overnight in the five-star Baltschug Kempinski Hotel.
Day 12 : Moscow
After a sumptuous breakfast at the hotel, a free time is programmed to visit the rapidly-changing Russian capital bringing our tour to an end. Airport transfers are provided to connect with afternoon flight departures
